Safe Steps, FL

Safe Steps is the most comprehensive statewide initiative ever undertaken to help protect Florida's children from abduction, Internet exploitation and other dangerous threats. Aimed at informing parents and guardians on how to help protect their children from predators, the initiative informs families by providing valuable, life-saving information in order to keep children safer. Launched on July 19, 2006, the initiative unveiled the results of a statewide poll and Web site at a news conference in Tallahassee, Fla.

Created in partnership with the Florida Attorney General's office, The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, The Florida School Boards Association, Macy's and Royal Caribbean Ltd., the initiative garnered nearly three million media impressions through print, radio, broadcast news and Web site views. Coverage included the Miami Herald, The Tampa Tribune, St. Petersburg Times, The Bradenton Herald and the Gainesville Sun with editorials posted in the Daytona-News Journal. As an extended educational outreach, a statewide broadcast of public service announcements were distributed through cable affiliates.
