The National Hurricane Survival Initiative

The National Hurricane Survival Initiative is the nation's most ambitious educational campaign to inform and protect Americans in hurricane-vulnerable states. Created in partnership with the National Hurricane Center, The Salvation Army, the National Emergency Management Association, Plylox and Travelers, the initiative makes national news with an annual poll testing citizens' knowledge of hurricane preparedness. It reaches and educates millions through an interactive Web site and a 30-minute television special, "Hurricane Survival 2008" which is broadcast in hurricane vulnerable states on television network affiliate and cable stations from Texas to Maine.

The National Hurricane Survival Initiative has generated more than 500 million media impressions, with coverage in USA Today, CNN, FOX News, MSNBC, the Baltimore Sun, Miami Herald, L.A. Daily News, Denver Post, New York Times, Orlando Sentinel, Palm Beach Post, as well as more than 6 million Web site hits.
